News 2004
Iranian exhibition in Tzaneen
The CLRU and the Tzaneen Community Library in Limpopo Province recently organised a most successful exhibition of Iranian Children's books, illustrations, toys and films in the Tzaneen Library.
This exhibition followed on the Iranian Children's Festival organised in February by the CLRU and the Embassy of Iran at Unisa. The Tzaneen Library expressed interest in the exhibition as a Library Week project, but the exhibition proved to be so popular that it ran from 15 to 26 March 2004.

Children from Tzaneen busy with drawings about South African and Iranian cultural life.
The exhibition was opened by the Ambassador of Iran, His Excellency Mr. Mohammad Ali Ghanezadeh, at a mayoral function on Monday 15 March 2004. Cultural entertainment was provided by a traditional dance group of Sawmills Farm School. Throughout the two weeks school groups visited the exhibition, viewed the films and participated in arts activities. Some of the art work created depicting aspects of South African and Iranian cultural life will be sent to the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young People in Tehran, to be exhibited in that city later this year.

|
At the opening of the exhibition: Mr Aboo Aboo (Tzaneen Muslim Community), HE Mr. Mohammad Ali Ghanezadeh (Ambassador of Iran) mr Mohammad Pournajaf (Cultural attaché of Iran); Ms Christine Nel (Head Greater Tzaneen Libraries); Counseller Masedi (Tzaneen Municipality) and Dr Thomas van der Walt (CLRU) |
According to Ms Christine Nel, Head of Greater Tzaneen Library Servives, their aim in organising the exhibition and accompanying activities was to introduce visitors to the Tzaneen Library, especially children, to an interesting foreign culture. The CLRU regards this as an ideal opportunity to extend its activities to rural areas and to reach people that do not usually have the opportunity to view exhibitions of this nature.
