Dikeledi Josephine Mmentle was on the 2nd of June 2011 elected new Mayor of the Greater Tzaneen Municipality. Mmentle who is also the Regional Chairperson of Mopani African National Congress Women’s League (ANCWL) replaced OJ Mushwana who is currently the country’s longest serving Mayor since the dawn of democracy in 1994.

Mmentle was nominated and elected Mayor unopposed by the 68-member council. During her acceptance speech the Mayor urged all councilors irrespective of their political affiliation to work together to better the lives of the people of Greater Tzaneen.
